Who is eligible to apply?
U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are:
- College-bound high-school seniors and have accepted an offer to attend a four-year undergraduate college or university during the coming school year, or
- Currently enrolled undergraduates at an accredited four-year college or university
Technical Requirements
The application is optimized for Mozilla's Firefox browser, but is also compatible with Microsoft's Internet Explorer.
To complete the application, you must have cookies enabled in your browser (In Firefox: Tools → Options → Privacy → Accept Cookies from Sites, and in Internet Explorer: Tools → Internet Options → Privacy → Medium, Low, or Accept All Cookies)
How Do I Apply?
No fee: There is no application fee for students to apply to DiscoverScholars.org.
Deadline: DiscoverScholars.org pays out scholarships to students four times per year, once per quarter. In order to be eligible for funding during the subsequent quarter, your application must be received by the appropriate deadline. The current deadline is September 15th, 2009.
Please note that all received applications will be processed in the order in which they are submitted. Therefore, applicants who apply earlier to DiscoverScholars.org will be eligible earlier for funding.
Applicants only need apply once. Students who applied during a previous quarter are automatically considered eligible for funding during subsequent quarters.
Application: The application is five pages in length, and should not take much longer than 30 minutes to complete. Your browser will save the data you enter in a cookie, so that you may return to finish your application at another time. Nonetheless, we recommend completing your application in one sitting, especially if you are submitting your application from a public computer or one that other users frequent.
Essays: You should prepare your personal statement and essay responses before completing the online application, so that you may upload them as attachments.
Printable Application: You may wish to print a copy of the full DiscoverScholars.org application, in order to see the information you will need to submit.
Required Fields: Required fields are indicated by a red asterisk (*), and further information for questions may be found by clicking on the hyperlinked [?] next to the question title. Please click on each hyperlinked question mark and read the instructions before answering each question.
Financial Aid: The financial aid section of the application is optional, however choosing not to fill out that section of the application will disqualify students from receiving need-based scholarship funding.
To complete the financial aid portion of the application, students must first have submitted their FAFSA application and obtained their Student Aid Report (SAR).
In addition, we recommend having your 2009-2010 FAFSA on the Web Worksheet handy to aid in completing the financial aid section, as questions in the financial aid section are designed to correspond to questions on the FAFSA.
Required Documentation: In addition to completing the online application, students are required to submit two (2) copies of the following documents by mail:
- Proof of U.S. residency (non-citizens only)
- Official high school transcript
- Official, to-date college transcript (current college attendees only)
- Proof of college acceptance (current high school students only)
- Official score reports for the SAT, ACT, and/or any other standardized tests listed in that section of the application.
Note: Unofficial score reports may be substituted if standardized test scores appear on student's high school and/or college transcripts.
- Official copy of your FAFSA Student Aid Report (students completing financial aid section only)
- A copy of your college's awarded financial aid package, and any grants or loans that you have been awarded by other organizations (students completing financial aid section only)
- Please mail the above documents, in one envelope/package, to the following address:
Completion: In order for an application to DiscoverScholars.org to be considered complete, we must have received all required information from the applicant. Students will not be eligible for awarded scholarships until the application is complete and has been verified as accurate by DiscoverScholars.org.
